Viamede Resort – Kawartha Gem

I recently shot a wedding on Stoney Lake at the well known Viamede Resort, just a 1/2 hour north of Peterborough. It is one of the most beautiful Kawartha locations and awesome for weddings. They have a small, very old church on the grounds where many weddings take place. Plenty of first class rooms for out-of-town guests to stay and a large, elegant dining room. I was privy to the dinner and it was excellent. One of the things that is fantastic about a location like Viamede is there is no need to drive anywhere. Once you show up at this excellent Stoney Lake resort, you are there for the day! What more could a couple (and their photographer) ask for on their wedding day!?

The Banks = Rich Family

Recently I had the pleasure of shooting the family of a good buddy of mine Scott Florence, co-owner of the first class Access Electric and Technologies company as well as all of the family on his wife’s side. Brother-in-laws …. sister-in-laws … nieces and nephews …. Mom & Pop … and a couple crazy dogs that made an appearance every now and again. They were a great group. Down to earth, easy to get along with people. Now it wasn’t all fun and games. There were times when some of the younger boys fought with every inch of their strength to not cooperate. That can be seen in the one shot of all the kids together at the fence. But for the most part, the kids were very patient with me. :) And when the ‘formals’ finished and I was shooting the kids playing, the boys were not camera shy at all and were all smiles.

This fun family shoot took me to Omemee. Down a quiet stone road to the Banks family farm. They have quite a beautiful spot down their quiet rural road. I was told by the Banks that our local Kawartha legend Mark Ridout had shot a couple of weddings at their farm. I thought it felt like holy ground when I stepped out of my car. ;) Anyhow … the shooting conditions weren’t ideal as it was very sunny Saturday, even with it being later in the evening, but we made out just fine. On the topic of weddings and Omemee, last year around this time I had an Omemee wedding just around the corner from their farm. That was a great day too! I’m beginning to really like this Omemee area!

A fall drive to Omemee is always a pleasure. Its nothing but rural Kawartha farm roads that take me there from Buckhorn.

Here are a handful of my fav’s from our time together. Enjoy.

Trash the dress … the wet way

On Michelle and Adam’s wedding day, I had intended to casually suggest to Michelle that maybe should be up to water skiing in her dress one day in the near future since she is a retired barefoot champ. In all the excitement of their day, I forgot. Not long after their wedding Michelle sends me an e-mail and says she went barefoot water skiing a couple days after then wedding. Nooooooooo … I missed it! So I nicely asked (begged) for her to maybe do it again and to my pleasant surprise, she said sure! :)

On a very overcast Saturday in late August we hit their lake (Fortescue Lake), south of Gooderham. It was a great time. Just north of Peterborough are many many quiet remote lakes and Lake Fortescue is one of them. A beautiful Kawartha lake. I spent a fun hour shooting Michelle both bare-footing and skiing on two ski’s and slaloming. Boy did she make it look easy. When she hit the water for the barefoot ski via the ski-boom, the boat was going just over 40 mph. It was quite a sight to behold!

Thank you Michelle for a very special shoot that comes along once in a lifetime! :)
